PhotoCraft FAQ: Price, Downloads, Formats, AI, and Platforms
Answers to common PhotoCraft questions about its license, official Windows and Linux builds, PSD support, mobile availability, and AI features.
These answers reflect the official v0.6.0 release checked on October 10, 2026. PhotoCraft is moving quickly, so use the live release page and project README to confirm version-specific details.
Is PhotoCraft free?
The project is dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, and its official release is free to download. Bundled assets can have separate notices, so review the repository license and attribution files if redistributing it.
Is PhotoCraft open source?
Yes. Its source is published on GitHub under MIT or Apache-2.0. Those licenses include conditions for redistribution and use; read the actual notices for your situation.
Does PhotoCraft work on Windows?
Yes. v0.6.0 includes Windows MSI installers and portable ZIP archives for x64, ARM64, and x86. Match your system architecture before downloading. See the Windows guide.
Does PhotoCraft work on Linux?
Yes. The official v0.6.0 release includes AppImage, DEB, Flatpak, RPM, and tar.gz packages for x86_64 and aarch64. Distribution and driver compatibility can vary; see the Linux package guide.
Does PhotoCraft work on Mac?
The release includes a universal macOS .dmg for Intel and Apple silicon Macs. Check current requirements on the release page and follow the Mac guide.
Is there a PhotoCraft mobile app?
The official v0.6.0 release assets do not include an iOS or Android app. A self-hosted web build is also not an app-store release.
Is PhotoCraft available in a browser?
The project publishes a static web build archive and links to self-hosting instructions. That is different from an official hosted browser service. Check the README for current deployment details.
Can PhotoCraft replace Photoshop?
Not for every user. The maintainers call PhotoCraft early alpha and say it is not yet a Photoshop replacement for daily professional work. Compare the features your own workflow depends on; see our PhotoCraft vs Photoshop guide.
Does PhotoCraft support PSD files?
The project documents opening, editing, and saving layered PSD documents. File compatibility can depend on features, fonts, and effects, so test with a copy of a representative file before committing a production handoff.
Does PhotoCraft include generative AI?
The current README lists generative AI as a gap. PhotoCraft does document on-device smart selection and Content-Aware Fill, but those are not the same as prompt-based generative fill or automatic AI background removal. Our AI features guide explains the distinction.
Does it require an account or upload files?
The project describes its editor as local/offline and says smart selection does not need a cloud account. This is a statement from the project, not an independent security audit. If handling sensitive images, review the source and security documentation and test your own deployment.
Can I use PhotoCraft commercially?
The software is offered under MIT or Apache-2.0, which are permissive open-source licenses. Follow the applicable license and notices, and check the separate terms for bundled assets or other components.
Is a PhotoCraft download safe?
Use the official GitHub release, read the version notes, and compare a checksum when one is provided. Open source alone is not a guarantee that every downloaded binary or third-party mirror is safe.
How do I update PhotoCraft?
Check the official Releases page and download the current package for your operating system and architecture. This guide does not assume that automatic in-app updates are available.
Where can I ask questions or report a bug?
Use the official GitHub issue tracker for reproducible problems. Search existing issues first and include your version and operating system. Community links are listed in the repository README.
